A few years ago Kathi Conforti started experimenting with hand dyed clothing. "I wanted to do something creative," she told me last week, "and I wanted to be my own boss. It started as a small thing that has grown into something bigger." Like many of us Kathi wears more that one hat as a mom, wife, and business owner in Pacific Palisades.

Initially the Designateria clothing line was placed in small local boutiques but after spending a summer on Venice beach selling her wares, Kathi decided to expand with a web store. Designateria.com is more that just a store, in addition it showcases a featured musician and artist each month. "I wanted to do something rock and roll," Kathi stated. She has multiple influences, having worked in the music industry, both as a performer and in business and promotion. "The artists that we are choosing for the site specialize in rock and roll" Many of her designs incorporate music like the custom guitar series. The colorful images of Strats and Gibson's are guaranteed to get a encore from the musician in your family.

My favorite items in the designateria line, have to be the "cupid gone bad" girly Tee, and the women's lingerie "sirens series". These come packaged like a set of guitar strings. Perfect for an X-rocker mom like myself because they are both comfortable and cool. For Valentine's day there are dyed heart camisole sets with matching bags, angel wrist corsets, heart ID cases, and rock art posters and Tee's for the boys.

"There is a lot of good music out there that doesn't get heard because it's not what the industry decided they want to sell right now," Kathi explains, "so we're trying to give some of these artists an outlet for exposure and a way to sell their music."
