The Nest Egg
15241 Sunset Blvd.
Pacific Palisades, CA 90272

When it comes to holidays, this place is full of cheer!

Several days ago I went to the Nest Egg to talk to Megan Kaufman about doing business in the Palisades. As I walked in, I was immediately excited by the glitter and glitz of the many beautiful items. Between the folk art Santas, the Department 56 ornaments, and the sterling silver Tizo frames, I forgot all about work. My mind turned to family and the holidays. I wanted to go home and decorate!

Founded by Cindy Ellis some 15 or so years ago, The Nest Egg is a high-end gift and home accessories store that focuses on holiday's. There are many unique and collectible items, along with a line of distressed antique furniture available for custom order. Partner Megan Kaufman tells me "Many of the interesting items actually come from the Midwest and the east coast," but lucky for me I don't even have to leave the Palisades to get them! This is one of my favorite topics (not having to leave the Palisades) and Megan goes on to tell me she was born and raised in Pacific Palisades– her parents first bought in the Palisades in 1945.

As a teen-ager she worked at the Weathervane, the Toy Shack, and a place on Swarthmore called In Things - a kids store. She used to wrap gifts in the back room. This is a service they maintain today at the Nest Egg - she, along with Santa's helpers, will wrap your gifts for free, then deliver them to your home.
Now that's service!!!!

Megan is also a full-time mom and the athletic director at Corpus Christi School, with 4 kids ranging from 3rd grade to a freshman in college. When I asked her what her favorite thing about the Palisades was she replied, "The sense of community– it's a very close knit community. It's large and you'll meet someone new everyday, but you still see the same faces and you can walk down the street and wave, it's just such a small town feeling. If you have to live in LA, this is the place to be!" She is very appreciative of the patronage of her loyal customers as well - it makes her feel good to come to work and see familiar faces.

The Nest Egg's ball park hours are 10 to 5 but Megan's at the store early and staff will stay late as needed for customers. Thanks for getting me in the holiday spirit!
